The civic initiative of three Cartagena-born twenty-somethings, among them the student of Telematics Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) Iván Piñero, to collect the garbage they find in the natural areas they like to visit is expanding as a powerful and healthy wave summery
The first meeting last Sunday, the group they have set up, Green Beach, got the participation of a score of young people, a figure they hope to overcome this weekend.
"It all started when uploading photos to my social networks of garbage that we picked up in mountains or beaches," recalls Piñero, a member of the Teleco LAN Party university association.
During the first collective collection, held at the Tajo de las Cuevas, a small cove near Cala Cortina, 32 garbage bags were collected and the twenty volunteers separated the glass and plastic waste from the organics.
The young people had to carry the bags to the road so that they could be picked up by the cleaning services, but "the Port Authority of Cartagena has told us that for future cleaning we will provide containers," says the student of the UPCT, who makes a call to increase the bins on the beaches.
The positive echo that the group has reaped in social networks has led them to organize for this Sunday a second meeting to carry out a collective cleaning between Los Nietos and Playa Paraíso, coinciding with a solidarity journey for the benefit of the sick people of ELA.
"They are going to leave us a van to transport the material," he says, satisfied with the good reception of the initiative he has promoted together with his friends Rubén Soler and Fernando Manuel Herrera.
The objective of the group is to continue increasing the number of volunteers, to whom they ask that they bring their own bags and gloves, "to cover more territory".
