The lifeguards of the beaches of Cartagena are informing users, especially the elderly and children, of the situation of yellow alert for high temperatures that has been activated this noon and that will be maintained during tomorrow Sunday, with temperatures that in our municipality could reach the 37 degrees
The personnel dependent on the Service of Fire Extinguishing, Salvage and Civil Protection of the City of Cartagena are advising these risk groups not to stay long in the sun, sheltering in the shade;
Drink water constantly and cool down with splashes when you bathe.
For its part, the Department of Social Services also maintains its special protocol to prevent the "Heat Wave" in vulnerable seniors through the Department of the Elderly and Disability and other vulnerable groups.
The measure pays special attention to those over 80 years old, who live alone, who suffer associated chronic pathologies or physical, sensory and mental disability, or who have other social or health characteristics (overweight, thinness or who take certain medications).
From the companies "Televida", commissioned by the City Council for home telecare management, and "Arquisocial", responsible for the management of home help, a whole series of information and prevention measures are deployed towards these people with whom there is an continued contact in their homes.
Among other issues, they are advised not to go out on the street during the most dangerous hours between 12 noon and 5 pm and the use of hats and fans is recommended, as well as staying in shaded areas, drinking plenty of liquids and cooling off in the head.
Rest frequently and avoid very crowded transports without air conditioning.
As for clothing, wear light clothing preferably cotton, light colors that do not squeeze, comfortable and breathable fresh shoes.
You also have to avoid using perfumes.
Other recommendations refer to what to do if you do not have air conditioning at home.
For this, it is indicated that the house be ventilated at night or at the beginning of the day.
In the hours of more heat intensity, keep the blinds down, and leave the curtains and awnings.
If fans are used, keep a window open to renew the air.
And if you have refrigeration use air conditioners, keeping doors and windows closed to maintain the temperature.
As for drinks, it is recommended to drink plenty of fluids and, unless medically contraindicated, sugary.
Avoid alcoholic beverages or those that contain caffeine.
Finally it is advisable to make light meals that help to replace the salts lost by sweat: salads, vegetables, fruits, juices, meat and fish, preferably cooked or grilled;
cool continuously with shower, bath and soak the entire head;
and in the hottest hours, try not to use household appliances that can produce heat, such as the iron, the dryer and the oven.
From the Department of Social Services has also established a special monitoring of those families and people who, because of their housing or social conditions, can be found in vulnerable conditions.
To this end, measures of support and coverage of basic needs are reinforced, among others.
