The La Mar de Músicas festival, which this year celebrates its XXV edition and will be held from July 19 to 27, goes far beyond sound and concerts.
To the 46 performances of its musical program, different activities are added every year around the invited country, this time, Portugal, gathered in the programs La Mar de Arte, La Mar de Letras and La Mar de Cine.
It was this Friday, July 5, when these activities have been presented that will be free in parallel to the musical program by the Councilor for Culture, Carlos Piñana, along with the director of La Mar de Músicas, José Luis Cegarra, in the Consistorial Palace.
"Art, film and literature will go hand in hand to show us the past and present of Portugal," says the councilman, "being the largest cultural landing that has been made in this country in Spain."
In addition, as is already tradition, La Mar de Músicas takes its program to a guest district with a day of activities and concerts, which this year has turned out to be the neighborhood of La Concepción in collaboration with the Neighborhood Association and NGOs.
Joaquín Cánovas, as he has been doing since the beginning of this festival, has been responsible for the programming dedicated to the last years of Portuguese cinema with ten films that will be screened at the new Teatro Circo in two passes every day, at 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm hours.
Stresses the special recognition of the actress, director and singer Maria de Medeiros, known by all in his role in Pulp Fiction Quentin Tarantino, who will perform at the festival on July 25, with his feature film Capitanes de Abril (2000), selected for the Cannes Festival.
The Sea of ​​Letters, made by Isabel Hernández, will be, once again, a framework to know the literature of the country invited to the festival thanks to the range of guests and activities that make up its program with four of the most prestigious and award-winning Portuguese writers of the moment : Lídia Jorge, Afonso Cruz, Gonçalo M. Tavares and Dulce Mª Cardoso.
Aimed at the family audience with musical bands and workshops dedicated to the little ones, the La Mar Chica program will be held in Plaza San Francisco.

Finally, La Mar de Arte will host seven exhibitions with the work of Pedro Cabrita, Alfredo Jaar or Isidoro Valcárcel Medina, among which the exhibition 'Windows of the World' by the Portuguese artist Andre Vicente Gonçalves, famous for his compositions of photographed windows, stands out in his travels around the world and that a few months ago he visited the city to add Cartagena to his compositions.
For La Mar de Arte the artist has created a new and unique composition that brings together some of the most beautiful historical windows of Cartagena, which can be seen at the CIM from July 15 along with examples from other cities such as Venice, Vienna, Paris or Amsterdam.
There will also be two interventions in the city center as the project "Inside Out" created by the urban artist JR.
The photographic memory of the festival will be shown in an exhibition under the name of "A festival, a city" that will be in charge of the two official photographers of La Mar de Músicas, Carlos Gallego and Pablo Sánchez del Valle, with a selection of images of the true protagonists of the festival: its artists and musicians, the different stages, the atmosphere of the city and its public delivered.
Urban art will also have a great presence in this edition, with the site-specific work of the Portuguese graffiti artists Frederico Draw and Rodrigo Contra, created especially for the city of Cartagena.
