Last Monday, July 1st, the "I Course of Archeology of the Archaeological Field of the Molinete Archaeological Park (Cartagena), Excavation and valorization of the Kardo II", organized by the CEPOAT of the University of Murcia, in collaboration with Cartagena Port of Cultures of the City of Cartagena, the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia and the Repsol Foundation, which in recent years is financing the archaeological and conservation works in the archaeological park.
A total of nine students from various Spanish universities participate in the course (Málaga, Cádiz, Almería, Murcia, Complutense University of Madrid and Autónoma de Madrid).
During three weeks, they will participate in the archaeological excavation of the so-called Kardo II del Molinete, a street adjacent to the Sanctuary of Isis and Serapis located in the Insula II, dated in the 1st century AD and paved with large slabs of micritic limestone from Cabezo Gordo.
During the 15 days of excavation, excavation techniques, documentation of the archaeological record, drawing and other techniques associated with the excavation will be tested.
In the afternoons, professionals of recognized prestige will give several conferences with which to deepen in different aspects of archaeological science.
This course aims to complete the practical training of future archaeologists, as well as contribute to the recovery and enhancement of Cartagena's historical and heritage heritage.
