The City of Cartagena informs about the activation of level 1 (preventive) of the "Framework protocol for municipal action in environmental episodes of pollution of NO2 and PM10" by exceeding the daily limit value of PM10 particles in Valle de Escombreras during the day of last Thursday June 27, according to the data provided by the General Directorate of Environment and Mar Menor.
Specifically, the average daily concentration of PM10 particles recorded in Valle de Escombreras was 52 μg / m3, compared to 50 μg / m3 established as a daily limit value that can not be exceeded more than 35 times per year.
As reported by the General Directorate of Environment, this overcoming coincides with the prediction of intrusion of African air masses for June 27, 2019. It also reports that the System of Diagnosis and Forecasting of Air Quality of the Region of Murcia (SINQLAIR) does not foresee overcoming particles for the day of this Friday, June 28.
The recommended measures, during the period that the preventive level remains active, are the following:
Preferentially use public transport, shared use of private vehicles and avoid as far as possible the displacements in private vehicles when it is not strictly necessary, especially in journeys within the towns.
Do not burn stubble or agricultural margins.
Avoid carrying out earth movements, cultivation areas and other practices that contribute to the generation of dust clouds while the episode persists.
Try to avoid exposure to the ambient air of especially sensitive people, such as children, the elderly and the sick.
At www.murciasalud.es (health and the environment> air pollution), the health effects of PM10 particle contamination and recommendations can be consulted.
