The unloading of fresh fish in the port of Cartagena has improved its catches by 13.82 percent in the first five months of the year, in relation to the previous year.
The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries acting, Miguel Angel del Amor, visited today the headquarters of the Fishermen's Association of Cartagena where he stated that "last year they obtained a download of 180.586 kilos of fish and in 2019 achieved a volume of 205,544 kilos, with a turnover that has grown by 28.2 percent the first months of the year ".
In the case of the Guild of Mazarrón, the increases in the catch of sardinia have allowed in these same five months of 426,803 kilos in 2018 to 1,300,607 in 2019, representing an increase of three times what was captured last year.
As for the fishing port of Águilas, the catches have improved by 37.67 percent and the economic value by 27.31 percent between the first months of 2018 and 2019. Regarding the Fishermen's Association of San Pedro del Pinatar, they have decreased by 20 percent and the economic value has dropped by 12.33 compared to 2018.
As a summary at the regional level, catches have increased by 69.30 percent, mainly in sterns.
In addition, comparing the years 2018 and 2019, the economic value has increased by 6.66 percent between the months of January and May, "a fact that highlights the health of the fishing grounds of the Region, thanks to the co-management plans of fishing effort established by the Community ".
After his visit, Del Amor gathered the concerns of the fishing sector regarding the forthcoming enactment and entry into force, on January 1, 2020, of the European Union Regulation that establishes the Management Plan for Fisheries Resources in the Western Mediterranean, which will publish the Official Bulletin of the European Union before the end of this month of June.
Agriculture grants 124.958 euros to Galpemur
Del Amor met with representatives of the Local Action Group (GAL) of Fisheries and Aquaculture 'Galpemur' which has been granted a grant of 124,958 euros to pay for operating expenses, promoting economic growth, social inclusion and job creation .
This aid is co-financed by 85 percent by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (FEMP) and by 15 percent by the Autonomous Community.
The meeting also discussed last April's convocation of the Ministry for the implementation of the Participatory Local Development Strategy, which has increased in the number of applications, from 15 in 2017 to a total of 56 in this one of 2019. "These projects are going to allow the own actors of the coast those who become promoters and executors of their own ideas, generating employment, vertebrando the territory and favoring the blue growth in the Region of Murcia", underlined the counselor
Among the projects, those aimed at enhancing regional fisheries products, fishing initiatives linked to tourism and marine tourism, a network of sustainable fishing restaurants or projects to raise awareness of marine ecosystems aimed at schoolchildren, among others, stand out.
Del Amor recalled his participation in the Fisheries Policy Advisory Council the previous week, where he claimed the State for the economic redistribution of the EMFF, the importance of reallocating the economic endowment that has not been executed by other communities, and thus be able to grant aid to investments that are considered necessary for the Region.
