The Psychosocial Attention Team (EAPS) of the San Juan de Dios Hospital Order (OHSJD) in the Region of Murcia has carried out the second edition of the project 'Adolescence, the cradle of the main caregiver', whose purpose is to raise awareness young people on comprehensive care in advanced diseases and palliative care.
Thus, this project has been carried out in the courses of 4 ° of Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) of the IES El Bohío, in Cartagena, reaching a total of 104 students aged between 15 and 18 years.
From the EAPS team, this edition is evaluated "very positively", because although the young people at the beginning recognized that they did not know much about this topic and the concept of palliative care in particular, many of them conveyed to us that the experience It had been very interesting, and they had learned. "
In addition, they indicated that they are interested in other related topics, such as psychology, social work, practical aspects of care and even grief.
Likewise, the IES El Bohío faculty also expressed their satisfaction with the sessions, showing their interest in making new editions.
The work of the Psychosocial Care Team in the Region of Murcia, supported by the OHSJD and the Jesus Abandoned Foundation, is part of the Program for Comprehensive Care for People with Advanced Diseases, promoted by the Obra Social "la Caixa".
This Program, pioneer at the national level, addresses the psycho-sociofamiliar-spiritual dimensions of the sick person and the main caregiver for ten years.
In the region, it operates in its main hospitals, Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital, Morales Meseguer Hospital, among others, as well as in home care support teams.
