On Friday, June 14, an exhibition about the archaeological site of the Roman town of Portus Magnus (Villa Paturro), located between Cartagena and La Unión, was inaugurated at the Enrique Escudero de Castro Municipal Archaeological Museum.
It is made by students of the Higher Technical School of Architecture and Building of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.
In this activity the City of Cartagena and the University of Murcia collaborate.
Here some of the proposals of the students regarding this archaeological site will be presented.
This exhibition shows the reflections made by students of Architecture of the UPCT about the enhancement of the deposit.
According to the directors of this excavation and research project, Alicia Fernández Díaz, Lorenzo Suárez Escribano and Gonzalo Castillo Alcántara.
These conclusions are the result of a four-year project that aims to restore and value Villa Paturro.
This project of excavation and research will continue to develop for a year and a half, as it has received a grant from the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia.
This comprehensive and multidisciplinary work will continue analyzing the results obtained from excavation work in the field.
During the academic year 2018-19, the students of Architecture of the UPCT have analyzed, documented and proposed the possible interventions in the archaeological site.
In addition, students of Projects I of the Degree in Architecture have carried out an action called a fountain that will become a landscape landmark and invite visitors to discover the place, be a meeting point and a wake-up call.
This same group of students has also designed an entrance pavilion that contains a small room with an area for customer service, rest space, meeting point, toilets and storage.
On the other hand, the students of Projects 7 of the Degree in Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena had to design a covering that avoided the deterioration of Villa Paturro, since it is a deposit of patrimonial wealth.
With this system, the students intended to reproduce a route similar to that of the Roman era and that facilitates at the same time the excavation and conservation that is done in this site located between the municipalities of Cartagena and La Union.
