The Alternative Free Time program (T-LA) of the Youth Council of Cartagena organizes a visit to the Island of Tabarca scheduled for Sunday, June 30.
The participants, who will leave by bus at 8:30 am from the Youth Resource Center to the port of Santa Pola, will access the island by boat, and may already enjoy bathing in its coves and beaches.
Visitors can also stroll through its picturesque port and sailor, as well as visit the museum on the island that houses an exhibition of didactic character, about all the notable heritage aspects that the island has, from its geography and geology, to beauty and biodiversity of its waters.
The island of Tabarca is the only inhabited island of the Valencian Community and is opposite the city of Alicante, 11 nautical miles and near the Cape of Santa Pola.
Its coasts sheltered in the past a refuge of Berber pirates.
In the eighteenth century, Carlos III ordered to fortify it and build a village in it in which to accommodate several families of fishermen from Genoa who were held captive in the Tunisian city of Tabarka.
The walls that surround its urban nucleus have been declared Historical Artistic Set and Well of Cultural Interest.
The registration fee is 25 euros and includes transportation, boat, food in the restaurant and access to the museum.
Those interested can request more information and formalize their reservation by sending an email to recursosjuveniles@ayto-cartagena.es or by calling 968128862 Extension 4 from Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm.
