The Campus of Los Dolores of the Catholic University has been the scene of the recreation of a work accident with a score of injured after the collision of a vehicle with scaffolding and multiple intoxication in a discotheque, with those who have learned to react with Nursing students quickly and the Master in Emergencies.
About thirty students of the Master's Degree in Nursing Emergency, Emergencies and Special Care of the Catholic University San Antonio and more than twenty students of the Degree in Nursing UCAM Cartagena have been mobilized with members of the 061 and Red Cross to respond quickly to the demands of health care in two simulations organized in the Campus of Los Dolores.
With the objective that the future nursing professionals knew better the techniques of triage, immobilization and attention of the patients in different circumstances of work under tension and short time of response capacity, two emergency situations have been simulated.
In the first scenario a work accident has been recreated in which a vehicle has impacted with a scaffold and about 25 workers have been injured in different degrees, for which the installation of a field hospital has been required in which it has been carried out the triage of the victims and the first attention, including the immobilization and the treatment of multiple trauma, and selecting the ambulance transfer of the most serious to the hospital.
Analysis of the work done
The second device has served to simulate the attention of a crowd intoxicated by narcotics in a discotheque, where students have had to evacuate patients, triage them and care for victims.
The students of the UCAM did not know until the beginning of the activity what the drills would consist of to maintain the surprise effect and to verify that they would know how to apply the theoretical knowledge and action protocols studied.
At the conclusion of the simulations, the students have evaluated together with the teachers the errors and successes of the reaction.
