Next Saturday, June 15, the Sports Club of Santa Ana will host the eighth edition of the charity tournament '12 Hours of Paddle with Astus' in which athletes with intellectual disability will share day with others without it with the aim of promoting sporting activity favoring the inclusion and visibility of this group.
It was this Thursday, June 6, when this annual event was presented at the Town Hall by the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García, along with the President of Astus, Joaquín Barberá, and the athlete with disability, Maria del Mar Piñero, who participates every year in the competition.
ASTUS has been organizing this competition since 2012 with the objectives of promoting sports as a means of inclusion for people with disabilities;
boost citizen participation and solidarity;
raise funds to improve the resources of the people served by ASTUS and show the commitment of the association in favor of all these people in the society of Cartagena.
The benefits obtained thanks to sponsors, which this year are 56 companies mostly from Cartagena, and tickets sold will go to improve the sports equipment of the association and its athletes with the aim of continuing to promote this type of activities.
In previous editions, the 12 hours of competitions have been uninterrupted, but this year there will be a stop at noon from 13.30 to 17.30 hours in which participants can enjoy a paella and refreshments at the club, which cedes each year its facilities for free .
The championship will be divided into the categories of double frames for 3rd, 4th and 5th men and women and Unified (teams formed by people with disabilities and without them), with the novelty of this year of the mixed children's categories sub10, sub13 and sub16 .
On the other hand, the tickets will have a price of € 50 per couple, € 25 per person in the unified category and € 20 per child couple, including paella, soda and T-shirt.
Those who have already registered in any of the male or female categories, may participate in Unified without purchasing this separate entry.
Those interested can register until June 13.
In addition to participating in the tournament, those interested in collaborating with the association can make a donation or contribute articles that will be destined to the winners of the different categories or during the draws to be held during the day.
The Association for the Protection of Persons with Disabilities (ASTUS) aims to achieve the integration, both family and social, of people with intellectual disabilities and to that end aims to improve the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities and / or paralysis. brain, as well as that of their families through social integration.
For this, it organizes diverse activities, not only sports, throughout the year open to citizen participation to promote social inclusion.
