On Saturday, June 1, the 19th edition of the Inter-Salesians Games was held in Cartagena, bringing together young people from Salesian schools from the Valencian Community, Aragn and Murcia at the Los Dolores institution.
The sports event, which served as a warm-up for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the institution that will take place next year 2020, began at 9 o'clock in the morning with the opening ceremony, where more than a thousand participants from all of them were already present the delegations of the participating schools, such as the San Jos and San Juan Bosco schools in Valencia, Ibi, Cabezo de Torres, Villena, La Almunia, Alicante, Campello, Burriana, Zaragoza and Elche, as well as the Cartagena organizers.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Carthaginians and Romans who welcomed all the young people and accompanied each delegation with a banner.
Salva Liarte in the role of "General Romano" Publius Cornelius Scipio, conqueror of the current city of Cartagena to the Carthaginians in 209 BC, was commissioned to present this inaugural act.
After the speech and the presentation of the official anthem of the event, accompanied by a dance of a group of school students, took place the arrival of the torch and the ignition of the cauldron, giving official start to the competitions of basketball, futsal, volleyball and soccer at 9.30.
The acting councilor of Sports, Manuel Mora, did not want to miss these sporting events, which lasted until 20:00 in the afternoon, when the closing ceremony was started again guided by General Romano, handing out the banner and a gift to the representative of each delegation.
The UCAM Murcia basketball captain, Jos Angel Antelo, also congratulated all the participants together with Luis Miguel Notario, delegate of Schools in the center of the Province of Mary Help of Christians, who announced that it will be the Salesian College in Elche where the next edition of these games will be held.
