This Friday, May 31, students representing the eleven centers included in the Participatory Budgeting project, promoted by the Department of Citizen Participation, have gone to the Palace Hall in order to publicize the development of the entire process in each of their centers and the manner in which they carried out the votes.
The ceremony began at 11 am in the ceremonial room, where the young people were received by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, and the acting councilors, David Martínez and Juan Pedro Torralba, from the Citizen Participation Area of ​​the City Council. Cartagena, responsible for the project.
"Last year was a total success and this year, to participate more centers has been 10", says the mayor of Public Service, who thanked all children their participation and involvement throughout the process with the mayor in the presentation of the act.
In it, the children have exposed by groups of each of the schools their way of organizing themselves throughout the process, but also the illusion that has made them all participate in the improvements to be made, since they are the who come every day to class.
Likewise, they have claimed to have learned to identify the deficiencies of their centers and to assess what they really need for their learning.
Since the centers were informed of their inclusion in the project, the students were divided into groups in which they designated responsible voluntarily to inform all the courses creating 'press cabinets', took photographs of the whole process and coordinated with the teachers and the rest of the students.
They also took charge of the voting and counting process, in which they themselves created the ballots, where the ones intended for the children's students included drawings, and named the members, presidents and auditors of the polling stations.
Among all this, they held meetings, assemblies, and created calendars to collect the proposals that would be put to the vote, for which they met with officials from the Decentralization Area of ​​the City Council.
A total of 6,400 students from the IES Mediterranean institutes, IES El Bohío, IES San Isidoro de Los Dolores and IES Galileo de Pozo Estrecho, and the CEIP schools José María Lapuerta, CEIP Vicente Medina, CEIP San Ginés de la Jara, CEIP Miguel de Cervantes, CEIP San Fulgencio de Pozo Estrecho, CEIP Virgen del Carmen and CEIP Santa Florentina de la Palma, were called to give their opinion on the improvements to be made in their centers in these votes.
For this, the City Council will allocate a total of 110,000 euros, that is, 10,000 euros for each one.
It was last May 13 when the results of the voting in all of them took place on May 6, 7 and 8, while on the 17th the mayor of the responsible area met with the directors, chiefs of studies and responsible of all the centers to value them.
To finalize the act, diplomas have been given to the educational centers as a reward for the development of the whole process and a backpack to the students with T-shirts that included the logo of the Participative Budgets, among other gifts.
