TIZONA Tower offers the most advanced features to the requirements of the Spanish Army for the future 8x8 Dragon Vehicle Tower;
It is a state-of-the-art weapons system, with great firepower and high precision, which also offers the best solution in terms of security for the Tower's crew.
The solid national industrial alliance established for the Program will allow, if chosen by the Ministry of Defense, both the production in Spain of the towers and their future maintenance and evolution, thanks to the close collaboration between Navantia and EXPAL, which have the endorsement technology of Elbit Systems, as design authority of TIZONA.
Madrid, May 30, 2019 Navantia, EXPAL and Elbit Sytems officially present TIZONA, the unmanned 30mm tower for the Spanish Combat Vehicle on Wheels (VCR 8x8) program at the FEINDEF International Defense Fair that is being held in Madrid from May 29 to 31.
During an institutional event held at the Navantia stand at the fair, which has had a broad representation of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces.
Susana de Sarriá, president of Navantia has put in value "the national character of our proposal, which in addition to generating an important workload in Cádiz, is a safe bet for the Ministry, in terms of risk reduction in production and cycle of lifetime".
For his part, Pedro Sallent, general director of EXPAL, stressed that "this alliance seeks to offer our Armed Forces a state-of-the-art weapons system produced by two Spanish defense industrial companies, strengthening our technological sovereignty."
The presentation of TIZONA in FEINDEF confirms the agreement signed by the three companies in December 2018, which will allow both the production in Spain of the Towers and their future maintenance and updating.
In this program Navantia brings knowledge, experience and facilities with great capacity for integration and manufacture of weapons systems, artillery and medium-caliber weapons, while EXPAL will be responsible for the manufacture and testing of electrical and electronic subsystems, as well as its maintenance;
Elbit Sytems, as a technologist, will support the start-up and qualification of the new production lines, and guarantees the low technological risk of the program.
In addition to the strong nationalization of planned production, the partners have defined an ambitious export plan, which will benefit from the strong international vocation of Spanish partners.
The most advanced and reliable technology
TIZONA stands out for providing the most advanced operational capabilities and technologies for the Spanish Army.
It is a proven system in high precision combat both in static and dynamic firing, thanks to its characteristics of stabilization of the barrel and the performance of its electrooptical systems of last generation, tested successfully in the most extreme conditions.
TIZONA is integrated with the 8x8 Vehicle selected by the Ministry of Defense, incorporating other selected subsystems such as the Spike anti-tank missile, coaxial cannon or smoke grenade launcher systems.
In addition to the above, TIZONA can be available in both the manned and unmanned version with minimal modifications and a high degree of commonality between both configurations, which would mean a significant reduction in costs for the Program.
The unmanned TIZONA tower has already been integrated into the same Piranha V vehicle of other NATO Armed Forces.
Creation of national value
This alliance will allow the creation of national value thanks to the development of a solid industrial plan that will allow the creation of high value employment in Navantia and EXPAL around 300 direct and indirect jobs, as well as the realization of investments in productive facilities.
The strong vertical integration of the technologist ensures a sustainable life cycle in terms of maintenance and development of new capabilities, as well as flexibility in the transfer of production to Spanish partners.
This transfer of technology will allow the national industry to expand and develop new capabilities, ensuring a gradual and risk-free introduction in areas of high technological content, thus betting on sovereignty.
