Three researchers have stood out among the 60 young doctoral students who, between yesterday and today, presented their scientific advances at the Agri-Food Research Workshop (WIA) of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT).
María José Sánchez Martínez has won the prize for the best oral presentation, endowed with 400 euros and sponsored by G's Spain, after exposing comparisons of the enzymatic activity, both intracellular and extracellular, of fungi that can be an affordable alternative for the production of scFOS (short chains of fructooligosaccharides), useful to substitute sweeteners and unhealthy fats in different foods.
His doctoral thesis, directed by Antonio López Gómez and with CDTI funding, is already in the industrial scale-up phase after laboratory tests.
With the second best oral presentation, a prize of 200 euros and sponsored by Symborg, Marta Clemente Carazo has been distinguished, who studies the emission of aromas, and Carolina Díaz García has also been recognized for her poster on comparative performance in denitrification of different wood.
"We are no longer surprised by the quality of our PhD students' presentations," highlighted the director of the TAIDA program in Advanced Techniques in Agricultural Research and Development and Food.
"The UPCT has very good researchers", coincided in pointing out Fabio Mencarelli, of the University of Viterbo and executive director of an agrifood scientific journal.
