The Cartagena Paralympic medalists Juan Carlos Mellado and José Carlos Moreno visited this Wednesday, May 22, the Palacio Consistorial de Cartagena after achieving silver and bronze in the Special Olympics held in Dubai in March.
Juan Carlos Mellado won the silver medal in tennis and José Carlos Moreno won the bronze in table tennis.
Both have been accompanied by Joaquín Barberá, president of Astus, and coach Ana Fe Madrid.
They have received the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, and the Councilor for Sports, Manuel Mora.
The medalists Juan Carlos Mellado and José Carlos Moreno have been very happy during the visit to the Palace and have recalled the experience in Dubai.
Both claim to have "sweated the shirt" to achieve their medals and "have taken photos with everyone."
The head of the sports program of Astus-Prolam and coach of both athletes, Ana Fe Madrid, says that the two young people stood out from the beginning in their respective sports.
"The first week is a bit of a preview to see what level they have.
They did it so well that they put them in the top group and in the end they brought medal and everything.
We did not know if we were going to have a medal option, because we were many athletes from all over the world.
In the end they have managed to work hard those days and with a lot of heat, these days are a little hard, but great ".
The president of Astus, Joaquín Barberá, feels satisfied by the successes achieved and ensures that there are more than 200 people training daily to reach the national and international competitions.
"What pleases me the most is that in the national teams there are always people from Cartagena and they come with some prize.
177 athletes have gone from the Spanish delegation.
Of the 4 that have gone on behalf of the Region of Murcia, 2 are from Cartagena.
