The Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (CHS) will operate in the ravines of Azohía and Albujón in the municipality of Cartagena to improve its hydraulic capacity.
The works are scheduled for the month of July, once the nesting period ends.
The objective is to recover hydraulic functionality, reduce the factors that alter the flow regime and improve the environmental conditions of the riverbeds and their uses.
The tasks will consist mainly of the elimination of invasive plant mass (mainly the Arundo donax cane), the stabilization and reinforcement of slopes, the reinforcement of margins by breakwater, and the collection and management of solid waste.
The actions are part of a plan of shock that the Confederation has launched with a total budget of 898,000 euros for the damage caused by the episodes of torrential rains and the lack of maintenance work in recent years.
The ramblas in which it is going to act present mainly two problems: in the first place proliferation of canes that diminish the capacity of evacuation of the channels;
and secondly, solid and large-sized trees that reduce drafts and even block and divert water, damaging nearby infrastructures and fields.
To the works already explained will be joined specific actions of conditioning and commissioning of service roads in crowning motes to increase safety in the use of these areas.
