Another year, the Regional Contest of Classical Music "Between Strings and Metals" has come to an end with a verdict very difficult to decide on the part of the different juries, due to the high quality of the interpretations of the participants, in total 169 , in this the XXII Edition.

The young musicians picked up their prize at this closing ceremony, which took place yesterday, May 17, at the Auditorium and Conference Center of El Batel.

This year it counted on a representation of students of all the conservatories of the Region: Conservatory of Cartagena, Murcia, Lorca, Molina de Segura, San Javier, Cieza, Caravaca de la Cruz and Jumilla.

The gala was attended by the president of the Regional Assembly, Rosa Peñalver, mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, the Councilor for Youth of the City of Cartagena, David Martínez, the general director of Vocational Training and Special Education Teachings of the Region of Murcia, Sergio López Barrancos, the director of the Conservatory of Music of Cieza, Samuel Oliver Pérez, and the director of the Conservatory of Music of Cartagena, Mª Ángeles Bres García.

The closing surprised all the attendees from minute one, beginning with the performance of the El Hechizo Teatro Company giving life to three great composers: Clara Schumann, Hildegard von Bingen and Nadia Boulanger.

These were from the beginning of the gala one of the protagonists and their common thread where all the other surprises of the closing act happened.

The panels of the exhibition 'The Great Unknown People' were also present on the stage, where recognition is given to the composers who, throughout history, have been invisible since the Middle Ages.

The other indisputable protagonists of the Entre Cuerdas y Metales Awards Gala were the members of the Scherzo Quintet - chamber music group winner of the previous edition of between strings and metals - composed by Ana Ros Hernández (transverse flute), María Conesa Vidal (clarinet), Pablo Bernal Pozo (oboe), Paula Cerdán Brau (horn) and Javier García Bas (bassoon), who performed brilliantly by vibrating the audience: Wind Quintet D Major, Op. 95 by JB Foerster and Three Shanties by Malcolm Arnold, giving us two other pieces: Olé Guapa by Arie Malando and the one played with the sketch made with the actors of El Hechizo Teatro, À Chloris.

In the middle of the Gala, great news was also announced exclusively as the composer honored in the next edition of the Entre Cuerdas y Metals contest will be: Ludwig van Beethoven, as the 250th anniversary of his birth is celebrated.

And that among the activities / concerts was announced as the premiere of 'El Concierto Extaordinario', which will be held with the Cartagena Symphony Orchestra at the El Batel Auditorium in March of next year, where the Beethoven Triple will be performed - Concert for violin , violoncello and piano in C major, Op. 56 -.

This is the only concerto that Beethoven composed for more than one solo instrument.

The three great soloists will be: Felipe Rodríguez García (violin), Gabriel Escudero Braquehais (piano) and Irene Ortega Albaladejo (cello), awarded in the I, II and VIII edition respectively in the Contest Between Strings and Metals.

The one in charge of putting the finishing touches to the Closing Gala was given by the Symphony Orchestra of the Conservatory of Music of Cartagena, this time led by a Guest Director, Isabel María Rubio Molina, former winner of this contest in 2007, in the modality of percussion and that has oriented its race also in the field of the direction.

Thus, the Conservatory of Music of Cartagena, together with Isabel María Rubio Molina were in charge of closing the twenty-second edition of the Strings and Metals Contest in the best possible way with: La Gazza Ladra by G. Rossini and the Bands Sonoras 'The Chronicles of Narnia' and 'Spiderman'.
