Go out to the school yard to be able to do any team work without having to invest too much in major projects.
That is the idea proposed by José Ángel González, Julia Pascual and Sara Genovés, of the Nuestra Señora de la Fuensanta School, in Murcia, and which has won the first prize of the II Architecture Olympiad of the Region, held at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT).
The young people have proposed for one of the residual zones of the center, designing different furniture modules so that students can come together to work as a team.
As detailed, the idea is to put banks with tables that can be removed and put in function of the needs.
"We have a large patio in the school and it is not as well used as it should be," they pointed out, adding that going out in the open to do group work would motivate them more.
The jury has especially valued its proposal, the use of a residual space to give life with furniture for different uses, which would also include a stand.
The second prize has been taken by the IES Los Molinos for its edited project to allocate a space in the patio to a kind of auditorium with a decagonal shape in which the walls would be made of glass and the windows can be folded to be used as well. tables
"We want it to be a very useful space for conferences, talks and teamwork," they said.
The jury has especially valued the technical part of their proposal.
Finally, the third place was taken by the Nelva school team for its proposal to improve the school's dining room.
"The dining room we have is a very small area where bottlenecks are formed, especially when it comes to picking up food and leaving trays."
To improve it, they propose a diaphanous space with an equipped wall that supports the kitchen of the dining room and that, in addition, serves to store utensils that will be used.
The jury has recognized them especially for having taken into account the number of students who use the dining room and improve issues such as acoustics.
Both the director of the Technical School of Architecture of the UPCT, Carlos Parra, and the person responsible for the activity by the School, Fernando García, have been satisfied with the level of young people and participation.
Both have indicated that the Olympiad is an "opportunity" to bring young people to architecture using different media.
In the second edition of the Olympiad, 338 students participated in 34 different teams, although in the end only 8 groups arrived.
It was proposed to the students that they rethink the spaces for teamwork of their Secondary and Baccalaureate centers.
This Olympiad (21049 / OLIM / 18) is the result of an aid to the organization of scientific Olympiads of the Region of Murcia funded by the Ministry of Employment, Universities, Business and Environment of the CARM, through the Seneca Foundation - Agency of Science and Technology of the Region of Murcia (www.fseneca.es).
