Throughout this morning the Cartagena network of cardio-protection columns will be composed of eight units, with the entry into operation of three new ones, located in the Plaza de San Francisco, Santa Florentina Market and Ribera de de San Javier, next to the Cénit Shopping Center.
In this way, from the City Council is still committed to enhance the presence of automatic external defibrillators (AED) in the street for 24 hours a day, following the indications of the scientific societies competent in this matter so significant for citizenship, it is known that the placement of defibrillators in multiple points of the cities and towns and with 24-hour use of the day would reduce mortality by extra-hospital cardiac arrest by up to 73%.
The columns, like those already installed previously, are equipped with defibrillators, resuscitation equipment and basic life support.
They are located in different parts of the city for use by citizens in case of emergency 24 hours a day and have regular safety measures such as video surveillance and GPS location.
From the Department of Public Function, Finance and Quality of Life has stressed the importance of having these columns in public spaces nearby and has requested citizen collaboration for its conservation, not making improper use of them.
The network of DEA columns, which forms a large cardio-protected space coinciding with the most crowded areas, began in the port of Cartagena with the first column owned by the Port Authority installed in the cruise terminal.
The second one is placed in Plaza Heroes de Cavite and Santiago de Cuba;
the third, in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento;
the fourth, in the Plaza de San Sebastián and the fifth, in Carrer del Carmen;
adding to all of them the new ones located in the Plaza de San Francisco, in the Santa Florentina Market and in the Cenit area.
All also have location signs and location arrows.
The maintenance of the same is the responsibility of the City Council through the Cartagena City Cardio-protected municipal project that depends on the Department of Public Function, Finance and Quality of Life.
From the City of Cartagena has also recognized the commitment of ZOLL Spain and Servytronic to continue betting on this project, defraying part of the installed columns, as well as all the municipal areas that have intervened and that have made it possible for this initiative to be a reality.
