The Regional Blood Donation Center, in collaboration with the City of Cartagena, through the Department of Quality of Life, organizes this Saturday, May 18, coinciding with the Night of the Museums, in the Consistorial Palace the blood donation campaign 'Drop by drop'.
This solidary activity is promoted by real estate agents and will be developed from 10 am to 2 pm.
This is the repetition in Cartagena, for the third consecutive year, of the 'Gota a Gota' challenge that is celebrated nationally and that during the past year in the city 128 donors were attended, surpassing the record of the previous year (119) .
Cartagena joins this challenge as well as Granada, Sitges, Valencia, Don Benito, Barcelona, Granollers, Madrid, Cordoba, Badajoz, Oropesa, Gran Canarias, Zaragoza, Benalmadena, Almeria, Castellón, Gijón, Roquetas de Mar, Santander, Aranda of the Duero, Marbella, Fuengirola, Elche, Crevillente and Alicante.
The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has invited Cartagena to come on Saturday to donate blood to the Palace Hall and said that "we will win and we will be the city with a greater number of donations."
During the two previous editions, Cartagena has been the city with the largest donations, although Don Benito, from the province of Badajoz, attended more donors in 2018. The port city is the first one due to the fact that the city of Paraná carried out the campaign in two days and not in a day like the rest of cities and Spanish municipalities.
José Luis Castellano, manager of Inmohogares, has stated that the goal is "to surpass the figure of the previous year, since the important thing is to save lives because with the blood donation three people can be saved".
Although all blood groups are necessary, the most demanded are A + and 0+, because they are the most common in the population and A- and 0-, since they are the most scarce.
The requirements to be able to donate are between 18 and 65 years of age and weighing 50 kilograms or more, not suffering from anemia and being in good health, not having been tattooed or pierced in the previous four months.
However, each donor will undergo a medical examination before carrying out the blood donation.
The presentation of the campaign has also counted on the presence of Paco Lorenzo, of Inmobiliaria Fincas, Pedro Nieto, of Gesprocasa, and the mascot of the challenge, Plasmi, a stuffed toy in the shape of a drop of blood.
The manager of Gesprocasa, Pedro Nieto, has indicated that "it is expected to attract new blood donors, since in 2018, attended the Palace Hall, 35 new."
In addition, he has asked Murcia to join next year to the 'Drop to Drop' Challenge.
To facilitate participation in the campaign, donors will have two hours of free parking in the Parking of the Dock of Alfonso XII.
In addition, a free oral cleaning service will be offered in collaboration with the Practiser.
