In relation to the news published in media of the Region of Murcia, the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL), wants to clarify the following:
"The European food aid funds of the FEAD 2019 Program have been withdrawn from the Food Bank of the Murcia-Cartagena Region and will be distributed to the same entities and beneficiaries of the previous year by the Food Bank of Segura-Murcia, as a consequence of a letter dated April 2, 2019 from the President, Mr. Enrique García Sánchez, from the first of the aforementioned banks, expressly renouncing the withdrawal and distribution of these European food aid from the FEAD 2019 Program.
This extraordinary situation, assume the distribution of 253,000 kilos of food in the 1st Phase of the 2019 Program, in addition to a similar amount that corresponded, ie a total of 506,000 kilos of products, has forced the Food Bank of Segura-Murcia to increase their efforts to absorb this duplicity.
It has been forced to rent an extra warehouse for storage and redouble its management and distribution of all the food received for distribution and delivery to the beneficiary entities with which they work in the territory of the Region of Murcia and, through these, to families in need. "
The FEAD 2018 Program distributed among the 55 Spanish Food Banks federated in FESBAL: 45.7 million kilos of food for a purchase value of 42.5 million Euros.
In 2,018, FESBAL and the Food Banks, with our 3,247 stable volunteers, have managed 151,645,441 kilos of food, which have been delivered to 1,195,167 people in need, through 7,402 charities, to which they promptly deliver the food obtained in different operations, such as the Great Collection, Kilo operations, state aid from the FEAD, agreements with companies and donations from companies and individuals.
