Citizens denounce the collapse of the fence that protects the Molinete Archaeological Park and its state of abandonment (13/05/2019)

Citizens denounce the lack of security and maintenance of the Molinete Archaeological Park.

The spokesman and candidate of the liberal party in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, has visited the area today and has found the perimeter fence on the northern slope of the hill completely collapsed, the same area where a German tourist was discovered pillaging on the ground by the edil Liberal, Ana Rama, "since then, instead of increasing security measures, these have decreased with the PSOE, and we know that tourists and curious enter easily accessing from San Fernando and San Vicente in this archaeological area allegedly protected, which also is in a deplorable state full of weeds and according to neighbors in the area, rats.

On the other hand, since Cs also denounce that the accesses by the stairs to that area are full of garbage, "even with abandoned glass bottles, the gift left by the bottles at the top of the escalator".

"If the PSOE does not act for the patrimonial value, that does it at least for the risk for the public health", defends Padín that assures that his party, "that has denounced throughout the legislature this shame, yes will govern Cartagena with the commitment and the respect that our treasures deserve. "

The Archaeological Park, inaugurated in 2011, "is in a state of complete abandonment, both the hillside that overlooks San Fernando and Morería Baja", according to the Citizens spokesperson who believes that "just walk around it to appreciate the lack of maintenance in terms of cleaning and gardening, and security for the graffiti and dirt found in its heritage remains, highlighting the interior of the mill and the Temple of the Syrian goddess Atargatis of the second century BC ".

"There have not even been established minimum protection measures for the mosaic located in the valuable aedicule of the goddess Atargatis, which is undone in plain sight," recriminates the Liberal spokesman.

Finally, Cs doubts that the contract for maintenance and monitoring of archaeological sites and assets in force covers all these needs and maintenance, "as we have already announced, one of our first tasks in the Government will be to audit all contracts public to ensure that they comply with the investment that Cartagena's taxpayers contribute every year ".

Despite the announcement in February 2018 of the opening of the Roman Forum Museum in 2019, "it is working at forced marches, but it does not seem possible to inaugurate it this year," warns Manuel Padín.
