Padín: "It is curious that the PSOE sells as an electoral promise the simple and plain compliance with the Law of Animal Protection" (12/05/2019)

On the occasion of the statement released today by the PSOE of Cartagena in which they announce that they have included in their electoral program the opening of new dog parks, and that they will adapt the CATAD services to the current regulations, the spokesperson for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín , has pointed out that "it is curious that the PSOE is trying to sell now as electoral promises its defaults of 2016 and the simple and plain respect for the Animal Protection Law, when they have infringed the previous one and the current 29 years and when it should be a no-brainer for any political party. "

As for the dog parks, the Liberal spokesman recalls that the coalition PSOE-MC, "promised in 2016 four facilities, now they want us to do an exercise of electoral faith when the only thing they have done in these four years was the monumental fudge in the CATAD for the reform of the cheniles with an amendment of Citizens, a work poorly done thanks to MC that, for a change, threw several thousand public euros in the trash. "

The spokesman of Cs Cartagena states that "in the absence of updated municipal census, we propose at least one dog park in the east and west, not only to offer this service during the summer but throughout the year, another in the area of Los Dolores and another one also in the Historical Quarter ".

The Citizens program also includes effective methods to control the urban animal population (such as CES for the feral colonies), collaboration through agreements with the animal protection of the municipality to promote actions of responsible adoption, sterilization and reduction of the number of abandonments.

In addition, Cs will refound the Bureau of Animal Welfare and begin to work on the inclusion of the definitions that the old ordinance did not contemplate, such as that relating to the feral colonies, and will evaluate "the infrastructure and personnel needs that we are going to have in Cartagena to comply with it so that we can calculate in detail the item that should be included in the regional accounts in 2019, "explained Padín.

Regional Law Boycotted and Forgotten

On the other hand, Citizens recalls that more than a year and a half after the Law on Protection and Defense of Companion Animals was approved unanimously in the Regional Assembly, the regional government of the PP continues to paralyze its regulatory development.

The liberal training recalls that the text of the law gave a one-year term for this development and for the design of the municipal ordinances subject to it, "neither we have the law developed nor the municipalities have been able to draft the new ordinances on animal welfare ", Manuel Padín has denounced.

Without financing it is impossible to comply with the law

Another aspect that worries Citizens is that the regional government of the PP has only granted in its regional budgets the ridiculous figure of X euros so that the City of Cartagena can face the changes imposed by the law, "if we pursue, for example, the zero sacrifice, it is irremediable to invest in the expansion and improvement of infrastructures such as reception centers, in case someone does not know, involves drafting projects, approve them, tender them and increase the staff with veterinarians and other professionals, if we legislate so that paid by all municipalities underfinanced and full of improper powers, we are direct to failure and chaos, "Cs Cartagena spokesman announces that he will work so that the regional government that emerges from the polls of the 26M assume the increase in aid.
