Different algae and marine plants that form authentic submerged forests;
red and white gorgonians that cover the vertical walls of large mountains underwater;
groupers, haddock, dentex, tuna, tuna or moonfish swimming among sunken wrecks and underwater canyons ... These and many other living treasures can be found in the bottoms of the marine reserves of fishing interest of Cabo de Palos-Islas Hormigas and Cabo Tiñoso , spaces that will be the scene of the Centinelas del mar conference.
These days, in which the City of Cartagena collaborates, aim to inform the public of the biodiversity of these marine protected areas, as well as the effects of climate change on some of the species that live there.
In addition, attendees can participate directly in the monitoring of marine communities through workshops in which they will learn scientific sampling techniques.
The conference is organized by the Columbares Association, a collaborator of the Sentinels of the Sea project: citizen science to monitor the effects of climate change on marine biodiversity, led by the University of Murcia and which has the support of the Ministry for Ecological Transition , through the Biodiversity Foundation.
