Reduce the effects of climate change in urban areas so punished by the intense heat as the old town of Cartagena.
That is the objective of the ecological space in which the terrace of Casa Moreno, headquarters of the Local Development and Employment Agency of Cartagena, has become.
With this intervention, the ADLE follows the objectives of the European Union that recommends municipalities to contribute their actions to mitigate climate change.
The placement of a green roof and the planting of plant species on the terrace of Casa Moreno, located on Caridad Street, allows to 'oxygenate' this area of ​​the old town.
The vegetal species that have been planted are specifically autochthonous and adapted to water scarcity.
In particular, incense, lavender, lavender, lavandin, thyme, oregano, hollyhock or manrubium have been planted.
All these plants can be found in the ramblas of the surroundings of Cartagena and fulfill the environmental purpose that was sought.
It also gives this space a new aesthetic dimension due to the variety of colors of these aromatic plants, which also give off a great variety of fragrances.
This new ecological space includes a small representation of citrus, so characteristic of the Campo de Cartagena, and olive trees.
In addition to autochthonous roses that are disappearing and that are characterized by their intense fragrance.
In short, we wanted to reproduce a 'Mediterranean and Cartagena terrace' in such an emblematic place in the old town of Cartagena and in a building as representative as Casa Moreno.
The action is part of an intervention made by students of the Mixed Employment and Training Program of Masonry and Gardening, which has also allowed to renew the image of the headquarters of the ADLE.
