The X edition of the Region of Murcia Cup of Palomos Deportivos, known as Murcia Cup, arrives in El Algar this Sunday, May 12 with the dispute of the final.
This tournament is qualifying for the 2019 Spanish Youth Championship. Until June 2, it will be held at the Sociedad de Colombicultura de El Algar.
It is the second most important competition in the Autonomous Community after the Regional Championship.
At this event 100 sporting pigeons will be present.
The society of Colombicultura of El Algar is responsible for organizing this sporting event, in which the Department of Sports of the City of Cartagena collaborates.
The Councilor for Sports of Cartagena, Manuel Mora, presented the event accompanied by Carlos Orta, president of the Sociedad de Colombicultura de El Algar.
Orta explained that 100 pigeons of the more than 8,000 who started the competition will participate in the final.
At the end of the Murcia Cup come the pigeons classified in the semifinals and in the National and Regional qualifiers.
The finalists have managed to overcome the more than 8,000 participants since the start of the tournament.
From 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m., there will be a presentation of all the pigeons in competition at the Pozo de la Hormiga Cafeteria.
The mayor of Sports of Cartagena, Manuel Mora, says that "more and more athletes are practicing" the Colombicultura, which "combines love for animals and nature."
In addition, Mora says that the Region of Murcia is one of the communities that has more licenses for the practice of this sport.
This championship, of first category, is assisted by the surveillance of a small plane to control the course of the release.
In this way, the referees can better control the route of the pigeons.
The winner will take 20,000 euros.
In addition, the first classified will have place for the National qualifier next season.
In that event, participants can fight to enter the Absolute Spain Championship.
