This school year, the IES Elcano has been named as the European Parliament's Ambassador School and, for this reason, 25 students from 4th ESO have visited the Town Hall on Thursday, May 9, Europe Day.
They have been received by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, and by the mayor of Public Function and Quality of Life, Manuel Mora, at 11 am in the Reception Room, where they have projected an 'infopoint' of the activities carried out during the course school in relation to this award.
This presentation, mandatory for all ambassador schools, has had information about Europe and the functioning of the European Union in collaboration with Europe Direct Murcia.
The students have shown their work with booklets from Europe provided by the European Parliament during tutoring hours in which they have dealt with topics under the center's plurilingualism theme or the video they made for the European elections contest on the importance of voting.
One of his teachers even participated in the K1 Erasmus Plus training program in Cardiff and at the multilateral meeting in Madrid.
Young people have also worked in the dissemination of the culture and customs of the countries of the European Union, as well as the exchange of students with other centers in France, the sending of Christmas cards with Belgian and German students, as well as meetings with important figures of political relevance at European level, journalists or actors.
The Latin students have also participated in European competitions to get their official certificates, as well as a translation contest and the participation of the center in the XIII edition of the European Festival of Latin and Greek, together with other activities with French students.
The center has celebrated important dates at European level as the European Day of Ancient Music with the participation of the choir Elcano in the week of Bach Cartagena.
Through social networks and its YouTube channel, students are spreading the campaign to raise awareness of the importance of the European vote 'This time I'm voting'.
During the month of May, they will continue to carry out activities with Romanian interviews and extracurricular activities with a teacher from the center, in addition to the objective of this 9th of May, Europe Day, which was to cross the borders of the center and make known their tasks in around this topic.
The mayor has congratulated all the students for their work and for their role in raising awareness of the importance of the ballot on May 26.
After his presentation, the mayor and the councilman have distributed some details to the students, who have made a guided tour of the palace to end the day.
