On Tuesday May 7 the Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena convened the cultural agents of the city for the constitution of the full Council of Culture, organ of participation and democratization of cultural management of the municipality, whose fundamental objective among others is to promote and elaborate the Municipal Culture Plan.
The session was chaired by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, together with the Councilor for Culture, David Martínez, and took place in the ceremonial room on the ground floor of the Consistorial Palace.
Other councilors of the Corporation also attended, representing the different municipal groups.
In the Conference of Culture and Municipality held in Cartagena in November 2015, the need to establish this Council of Culture of Cartagena (CCCT) was established, conceived as an institutional organ of participation in the cultural management of the municipality, composed of representatives of different sectors and agents of the cultural world, and that will have among its functions, besides serving as a channel of participation, the control of cultural policy, its development, coordination, monitoring and evaluation and, in this first stage, the impulse for the elaboration and approval of the Municipal Culture Plan of Cartagena, a planning document that must gather the objectives and actions of this policy.
The Culture Council will collect the petitions and ideas that any person interested in the culture of the city has made through nine permanent work commissions, divided into visual and plastic arts, performing arts, music, reading, books and libraries, cinema and audiovisual , Cultural heritage and popular culture, Science and thought, Diversity and thought and a transversal Commission that will include topics related to cultural management in general.
During the constitution the mayoress and the councilman of Culture took part, as well as the nine presidents of the different work commissions.
