Cartagena celebrated throughout the past weekend a new edition of its traditional and popular May Crosses in the main streets and squares of the historic center, as well as neighborhoods and councils.
The musical activities this year were specially promoted and organized by the City of Cartagena in order to minimize the inconvenience to neighbors, enforcing current legislation and reconciling the right to rest with the interests of the hospitality industry.
This was stated by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, answering questions from journalists.
Castejón has made a positive assessment of the celebrations held, explaining that the streets, squares and bars have been full during this weekend, as the media have stated.
The mayor has assured that the activities have been organized within the current legislation.
"We have managed to respect the rest of the neighbors and the innkeepers have benefited because they have had full bars," against those who had predicted that this year there would be no May Crosses.
From Friday May 3 to Sunday 5, there were live musical performances in six stages located in the Plaza del Icue, San Francisco, Plaza Juan XXIII, Plaza San Sebastian, Plaza del Rey and Plaza del Ayuntamiento next to the ornamental crosses in charge of the Marraja and California fraternities placed in their headquarters.
The festivities began on Friday afternoon with the performance of Canela en Rama, Filiu, discombiles in the squares and, finally, the Azabache Duo in the Plaza de San Francisco.
They followed in the morning of Saturday with the parade Gaiteros celticue, as well as the performance of the musical band Sauces with pasodobles and rocieros choirs, which gave way to the performance of the ballet of Carmen Baños and Ana Zapata in the afternoon, among many others also during the night.
The music band Nuestra Señora de la Soledad opened Sunday activities that ended the celebration of the May Crosses this year, along with the performance of various groups and discomobiles in the squares.
The traffic was cut in the Historic District to facilitate the celebration of these celebrations and the lines to circular buses, Icue Bus, could be used free of charge to facilitate the mobility of the citizens towards the center of the city.
MAY CROSSINGS IN THE DIPUTATIONS
The festivity was also held in various councils of the municipality as in La Azohía throughout Saturday, where the Councilor for Public Services, Citizen Participation and Celebrations, Juan Pedro Torralba, visited the floral ornamentation.
The Llano del Beal also celebrated its May Crosses during Sunday the 5th, as well as the San Cristóbal, Galifa, La Aljorra, La Azohía, Vista Alegre, Santa Lucía and La Aparecida neighborhoods.
In the Strait of San Ginés, the cross was located in front of the Church San Nicolás de Baro, where a mass was celebrated that gave way to a day of coexistence of the neighbors in the square, acts attended by the councilor of the area of Social Services, Education and Transparency, Mercedes García.
