The president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, today praised the ability of entrepreneurs to make Cartagena "a city of opportunities and economic engine of the region", and transferred the support of the regional government to be recognized as an innovative city-entrepreneur worldwide, joining Boston, Stockholm, Austin, Medellín or Shenzhen, among others that have already achieved it.
"Cartagena is a city of opportunities, both industrial and tourist and university, with demonstrated ability to transform the knowledge that is generated," said Lopez Miras at the close of the General Assembly of the Regional Confederation of Business Organizations of Cartagena (COEC), in the 40th anniversary of this organization "that throughout that time has defended the interest of this region and the general interest of the Region and of Spain".
He stressed that the work and effort of COEC has been aimed at "generating opportunities and jobs", which has also contributed to the growth of the Region where in the last year almost 30,000 new jobs have been created.
He said that "if we grow it is thanks to you", in reference to the 7,311 companies registered in the Social Security in Cartagena, which have contributed to the drop in unemployment in 2018 in the port city and increase the number of Social Security affiliates.
But, in the opinion of the president, "to continue on this path they need the tools to keep doing what they do better than anyone, which is to create opportunities."
In this regard, he referred to the revitalization of the Technological Park of Fuente Álamo, the definitive impulse to the High Speed ​​or the Zone of Logistic Activities, as elements that will drive the "capacity of Cartagena to continue growing".
During his speech, López Miras encouraged everyone to "work to make Cartagena bigger in a better Region, in a stronger Spain, from the agreement and looking to the future with enthusiasm".
