The City Council of Cartagena reports that Level 1 (preventive) of the "Framework Protocol for Pollution" has been activated, due to the exceeding of the daily limit value of PM10 particles in the Escombreras Valley during the day yesterday, 02/05 / 2019
Specifically, the average daily concentration of PM10 particles recorded was 51 μg / m3, compared to 50 μg / m3 established as a daily limit value that can not be exceeded more than 35 times per year, according to Royal Decree 102/2011 concerning the improvement of air quality.
The Inspection and Environmental Control Service of the Directorate General of Environment and Mar Menor is checking the emissions of industrial activities and earth movements carried out during the day yesterday in the vicinity of the air quality control station, including the cleaning work that is being done in the Rambla del Charco, in order to try to determine the origin of this episode.
The Directorate General of Environment and Mar Menor reports that, according to the System of Diagnosis and Forecasting of Air Quality in the Region of Murcia (SINQLAIR), no values higher than 50 μg / m3 are foreseen for the day 03/05/2019 .
The recommended measures, during the period that the preventive level remains active, are the following:
1.Use preferably public transport, avoiding as much as possible the use of private vehicles when it is not strictly necessary, especially in journeys within the towns.
2. Do not burn stubble or agricultural margins.
3. Avoid carrying out earth movements, cultivation areas and other practices that contribute to the generation of dust clouds while the episode persists.
4. Try to avoid exposure to the ambient air of especially sensitive people, such as children, the elderly and the sick.
