Professor Manuel Pardo, one of the founders of this project in Spain, has presented this service to the Nursing students of the Campus of the UCAM in Cartagena so that they can offer it to their future patients or collaborate as volunteers in the journeys.

Within the framework of the Meetings of Socio-Health Resources for Patient Support organized by the School of Nursing in the Campus of the UCAM in Cartagena, students of this Degree have been able to get to know the HURGE Foundation (Humanizing the Emergencies and Emergencies) in charge of the Ambulance of the Wish in Spain and how it treats patients with the aim that in the future, as health professionals, they can help a patient by recommending the service or collaborating with this initiative.

The idea is that with these meetings students have an idea of ​​what is offered from the third sector as a complement to what is done in public or private health and therefore the Catholic University San Antonio has organized 14 talks with entities like this , the Spanish Association Against Cancer, the Ostomized, Astus, Sodicar or Red Cross, among others.

Fulfilling wishes in Ecuador, Morocco and Holland

UCAM professor Manuel Pardo, who is one of the promoters of the Ambulance of Desire, explained that "up to now, in less than six months, we have made the wishes of 23 patients a reality. of a child who was in palliative and wanted to go to Ecuador, we have also been in Morocco and, more recently, we have collaborated with another similar foundation in the Netherlands to take to that country a Dutch lady who was in palliative care and lived in Aspe".

"The foundation bought a first vehicle and fruit of the collaboration of the UCAM, whose president is one of the people who has supported the most, and of the Nursing students we were able to buy a second vehicle to continue fulfilling wishes", added Pardo.

"The plaintiffs of this service are people who have a disease and what they want to fulfill is a wish, they are not only patients who are at the end of their lives, but there are also patients with chronic diseases or a specific problem, such as, for example, who has operated on appendicitis and they have their daughter's wedding, "explained Pardo.
