1,200 schoolchildren in Cartagena will be able to enjoy the theater play 'Belcebú' on the occasion of the International Day of Bullying (29/04/2019)

On the occasion of the International Day of Bullying, next May 2, and with the aim of raising awareness among the school public about this important issue such as bullying, the Cartagena City Council collaborates with the Compañía Blanca Marsillach, which will bring its work of theater 'Belcebú' to our city this coming Tuesday, April 30th.

In addition to the continued actions that the Department of Education carries out together with the Municipal School Council within the framework of the prevention of bullying, other sporadic activities are carried out, such as this theater play that was presented on Monday, the 29th at the Consistorial Palace of the hand of the Councilor for Education, Mercedes García, along with the director of the theater company, Blanca Marsillach, and that schoolchildren of the municipality can enjoy at the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center in two different countries.

The company has been around the country for a year with the play 'Beelzebub: The Lord of the Flies', directed by Antonio García.

"The abuser is like a fly that is prowling the victim," explains Blanca, in which the work addresses the views of both the abuser and the victim and the teachers, as well as the issue of cyberbullying and social networks with young actors, so that schoolchildren can identify with them more easily.

After the representation of one hour, which will be attended by more than 1,200 schoolchildren in the last cycle of primary and secondary schools IES Polytechnic, IES Isaac Peral, CEIP Gabriela Mistral, IES Carthago Spartaria, CEIP Virgen del Carmen, CEIP San Felix, CEIP Luis Vives and Feliciano Sánchez, will take place a 45-minute workshop in which the public can interact, go on stage and put themselves in the shoes of both protagonists, the harassed and the harasser, and try to find solutions or present their proposals to the situation .

The International Day against bullying arose from the initiative of the educational community to give visibility to the consequences on the victims that this behavior has intentionally over time, with sequelae that even last beyond the school period as depression .

From the different public administrations, work is being done to create policies that favor educational inclusion, equal rights and opportunities, nonviolence in classrooms or the promotion of adequate values ​​that also include gender violence.

These issues are priorities in the directives of schools in the city, which have been conducting coexistence and anti-bullying programs in collaboration with the Department of Education as workshops and lectures in primary and secondary school, the program of Family Schools, the program The Police Educates in collaboration with the Local Police, others for the prevention of gender violence, intercultural education and awareness with disability, among others.

Within the Municipal School Council, a permanent Commission for the Prevention of School Harassment has been created with this motive, with the presence of political groups, representatives of the administration, teachers, parents and also of the Department of Education.
