Yesterday there was a rally at the doors of the Central Cinema, organized by the Federation of Neighborhood Associations (FAVCAC), the Performing Arts Platform and the Cartagena International Film Festival (FICC), to demand the CARM the immediate rehabilitation of this space that brings together the various cultural branches of the municipality.
In this sense, the councilor and person in charge of Culture of MC Cartagena, Ricardo Segado, has assured that this citizen concentration "was clearly adulterated by Noelia Arroyo and David Martínez, those against whom the collectives themselves were demonstrating. the counselor who boycotted the purchase of the Cine Central when the mayor, José López, tried to acquire the property to transform it into a center for the performing arts and culture. "
Cynicism and lack of respect of PP and PSOE towards the Cartagena
Similarly, the mayor of Cartagena remarked that Mrs. Arroyo "appeared there in order to pretend that he wants something good for Cartagena, when the only thing he has done is work against him, only for his own benefit and to continue clinging to a public position. "
Also surprising is the presence of the councilman of Government David Martinez, who has been responsible for cultural matters for four years and has not offered a solution for the future to provide the city with a municipal theater, where it can shelter and shelter the School of Theater, to the different associations and theater groups, to dance, etc.
"We believe that there can be a cynicism and a greater lack of respect towards the inhabitants of Cartagena," said Ricardo Segado, who has also considered that "the PP and PSOE take the picture claiming something that they themselves have been holding all the Legislature is something never seen before. "
MC, the only party with concrete proposals for the Cartagena culture
On the other hand, it is worth remembering that last April 8, at the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center, a meeting organized by the Permanent Performing Arts Commission took place, where the political groups represented in the City Council presented their proposals for the future for this sector.
"In this meeting it was clear that MC is the only group that has a project and with realistic ideas for the future of these arts, the 'PPSOE' was to try to defend itself, without success, from its own ineffectiveness, and the rest of the formations He preferred to talk about himself before Cartagena, and that is how it goes, even though it is a situation that citizens will change on May 26. "
Finally, Segado pointed out that "MC is not satisfied with this bleak panorama and will try to start a firm and public commitment in the next municipal plenary session, which is why we will take the initiatives of the Performing Arts Commission, signed by different political groups, and if they truly believe in the cultural future of the city, it will become an Institutional Declaration. "
Background in the Central Cinema
The Central Cinema of Cartagena, closed since 2000 and forgotten for years by the local and regional governments of PP and PSOE, experienced an important boost with the arrival at the Mayor's Office of MC and José López in the summer of 2015.
Thus, López and the Cartagena training promoted various initiatives for their recovery, integrated into a strategic plan of commitment to culture, regeneration of the surroundings of the Plaza de la Merced and social inclusion.
Between the concrete proposals of MC was the one to install there the Superior Conservatory of Music, attending this way the request of thousands of Cartagena.
Meanwhile, the CARM, which had completely bypassed the Central Cinema, announced the purchase of it in December 2016 for a total of 600,000 euros.
The own autonomic government assured in that moment that it would become "a cultural space of first order and artistic reference".
Later, in July of last year, he said that it would be used for a multifunctional regional library, trying to sell, once again, that Cartagena is a priority for them.
