The book 'The Fleet is Red' is presented within the program 'Read, Think and Imagine' (25/04/2019)

This Friday, April 26, will take place the presentation of the work 'The Fleet is Red', organized by the Historical Memory Association of Cartagena at 8:00 pm.

in the library Josefina Soria Ramon Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center, act framed in the program 'Read, Press and Imagine' organized by the Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena.

The book is a classic of historical research on the Civil War, written by Daniel Sueiro (1931-1986), a prominent Spanish journalist and writer belonging to the so-called "generation of the fifties", which had the National Literature Prize.

In the work of Daniel Sueiro several Spanish directors were inspired for some of his best known films.

Among others, Carlos Saura, with his first film, Los golfos;

Mario Camus, with Los farsantes;

Juan Antonio Bardem, whose film The Bridge is a script by the writer, and Basilio Martín Patino, who in Queridísimos verdugos was inspired by Sueiro's book The Spanish Executioners.

Sueiro reconstructed what happened in the first days of what would later be the Spanish War in the Spanish Navy through the key figure of Benjamin Balboa, naval radiotelegraphist.

The work "The Fleet is red" is still a reference piece inescapable in historical research on this field.

What happened ship by ship and base by base is analyzed in an implacable and precise way.

Sueiro marked a level of honesty and good professional practice seldom achieved in investigative journalism and which makes it a reference both moral and historiographic.

A solid work, documented and very well written that marked a milestone in the historiography on the Spanish civil war.

The book will be presented by Pedro A. García Bilbao, author of the prologue and the introductory study, sociologist and full professor of the Rey Juan Carlos University.

He is a founding member of the Spanish Association of Military History and president of the Forum for the Memory of Guadalajara.

The act will be presented in turn by Floren Dimas, delegate in the Murcia Region of AGE (association File, War and Exile).

The full title of the book is "The fleet is red Paple key radiologist Benjamin Balboa in July 1936," and has been reissued by Silente Editorial in 2009 (the original edition is from 1983).
