The Local Police of Cartagena will carry out from 12 to 21 April, a campaign of surveillance and control of alcohol and drugs while driving.
The controls will be carried out by the traffic police section of Cartagena in collaboration with the different police units of the district, both in the city, as well as in neighborhoods and councils, with the aim of ensuring greater awareness of road safety, coinciding with the Holy Week,
The Road Safety Law is very strict regarding the consumption of narcotics, therefore, it prohibits driving with the presence of drugs in the body, although substances that are used under medical prescription and for therapeutic purposes are excluded.
The Criminal Code provides for drivers who circulate under the influence of alcoholic beverages, toxic drugs, narcotics or psychotropic substances, prison terms of three to six months or a fine of six to twelve months or work for the benefit of the community of thirty-one to ninety days, and, in any case, that of deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for more than one and up to four years.
