The City of Cartagena belongs to the World Network of Friendly Cities with the Elderly, a project that comes from the World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with INSERSO, with the aim of connecting cities, towns and organizations of all the world that share the vision of making their places places where to age with quality and dignity.
This project comprehensively addresses the aspects that affect the day to day of the cities, promoting active aging, improving their environments and services and incorporating this perspective in municipal planning.
Its methodology is based on the participation of the interested parties themselves, the elderly, taking into account their needs, perceptions and opinions throughout the process of analysis and improvement of the municipality.
For this reason, the mayor of Social Services, Mercedes García, asked the representatives of senior clubs, active involvement in this project so prestigious and important for the city of Cartagena and in which their collaboration is essential
The City Council has already started the first phase of diagnosis of the project, which will be developed throughout 2019, which will incorporate the information collected by more than 600 elderly people throughout the municipality, information of entities and associations related to this collective and the information obtained by the technicians of the city council of the areas related to the urban and social environment that affect the quality of life of the elderly such as: Social Services, Urbanism, Infrastructure, Culture, Youth, Commerce, Security, New Technologies, Equality, Participation and Sports;
Based on this diagnosis, which will provide a complete view of the friendliness of the city of Cartagena with the Elderly, an Action Plan will be carried out for the next 5 years.
