The corners, sculptures and vestiges of the past of the Municipal Archaeological Museum Enrique Escudero de Castro hosted on April 4 the presentation of a new APP created for mobile devices, which shows us in augmented reality and with access to information, 3D objects of this place.
This application has been developed by a group of young people from the course 'Introduction to the Creation and Development of Virtual Environments'.
This training, framed within the National Youth Guarantee System of the Department of Youth of the City of Cartagena, ended on January 23 and had the participation of 20 young people between 16 and 30 years, of which 8 young people have made the practices in the company Freaktime, the one in charge of developing the APP.
The presentation of the APP has had the presence of the Councilor for Youth, David Martinez, the coordinator of the Department of Youth, María del Mar Sánchez, the general director of Historical Heritage and Archeology, M. Carmen Berrocal, with the monitor of the course, José Javier Luis Tello and the eight young people in charge of the mobile application.
With this APP, a selection of the Culture and Heritage of the museum, from Prehistory to the Age of Lead, is mainly aimed at young people or those people who have good management of new technologies.
The Councilor for Youth, David Martinez, said that "it is a novel project and that is going to try to put into action in all museums and sites of Cartagena because it is a didactic tool that makes children interested in history."
In addition, he explained that "objects will be seen in 3D, away from the cold glass of the showcase, which often hinders vision."
Although, for the moment it can only be used with a mobile phone or with a tablet from the Archaeological Museum, it will be launched so that it can be used in any device other than this one.
The course of 'Introduction to the Creation and Development of Virtual Environments', with a duration of 250 hours, has trained students in knowledge related to different programming languages, graphic design, animation and 3D modeling.
Manuel Madrid, one of the developers, pointed out that with this mobile application, visitors "can see a reconstruction of damaged objects or see the large-scale details of a piece such as a pendant".
Tourists and Cartagena who come to the Municipal Archaeological Museum and try the APP can see "how the Roman amphoras were transported in the ships, the process of how the lead is melted or the translation of a Romanization column".
In addition to the presentation of the APP, the mayor of Youth, David Martinez, has delivered to the eight students of the corresponding diplomas of the course.
