The IES Bohío hosted on March 29 the closing of the XXX edition of the Mathematical Olympiad in memory of Francisco Ortega, who has awarded Juan Antonio Soler, student of the Jesús María-Alfonso X School (Murcia), the victory in this contest education that aims to vindicate the importance of mathematics in society.
This act was attended by the Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, the Councilor for Education, Mercedes García, the General Director of Care for Diversity and Educational Quality, Francisco José Martínez, the rector of the UPCT, Alejandro Díaz, the Director of Institutional Relations of the UCAM, José Gonzalo Acuña, the student coordinator of the Public University of Murcia, Diego García, the academic director of the Menéndez Pelayo International University in Cartagena, Jesús Bernal, members of the AMPA, professors, students and representatives of the participating schools in this contest.
The act has begun with the presentation of the Doctor in Mathematics by the University of Valencia and Professor of Geometry and Topology at the University of Murcia, Ángel Ferrández, entitled 'Planilandia: A world in two dimensions', where he spoke about the four dimensions of a simple and practical way.
After the presentation, it was the turn of the members of the table that congratulated the winners of the Mathematical Olympiad.
The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, pointed out that "mathematics is fundamental for intellectual development, it makes us more logical, reason in an orderly manner, have critical thinking and we can not deny its importance since it covers all areas of our life".
The members of the table have presented the prizes to the winners of the Mathematical Olympiad.
The winners were the following:
First prize: Juan Antonio Soler, of the Jesús María-Alfonso X School (Murcia).
Second prize: Iago Ibarrola, from IES Jimenez de la Espada (Carrtagena)
Third prize: Cristian Angosto, of the Santa Joaquina Vedruna School (Cartagena).
ESO students: Hugo Iglesias, from IES Isaac Peral (Cartagena), Alfonso Franco, from Alfonso Escámez IES (Águilas), Alejandro Canovas, from the San Vicente Paúl School (Cartagena), Patricia Acosta, from IES Isaac Peral (Cartagena) and Lucia Andreu , from IES Thader Orihuela (Orihuela).
First Educational Center: IES Thader of Orihuela
Second Educational Center: IES Jiménez de la Espada (Cartagena).
The act has been closed with the performance of the band of music of the center accompanied by a baritone teacher who has interpreted two scores, one of them, 'Yesterday' by John Lennon and Paul Mccartney.
