The Road Safety Law and the General Circulation Regulations establish the regulations applicable to the generic and specific limits of speed, overtaking speed and distances between vehicles.
Failure to comply with these rules is classified as serious or very serious infringement, sanctioned with fines of 100 to 600 euros.
Article 379 of the Criminal Code establishes that "anyone who drives a motor vehicle or a moped at a speed greater than 60 miles per hour on urban roads or at 80 miles per hour on interurban routes to those permitted by law, will be punished with the penalty of imprisonment of three to six months or to a fine of six to twelve months and work for the benefit of the community from thirty-one to ninety days, and, in any case, to that of deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for more than one and up to four years ".
