The building of the Punic Wall has been awarded in the VIII Edition of the Building Quality Awards of the Region for its "tourist use", sharing the award with the Lodomar Hotel in San Pedro del Pinatar.
The Punic Wall is one of the first projects launched by the Cartagena Port of Cultures consortium.
A building designed by the architects José Manuel Chacón and Alberto Ibero in 2003 to protect the archaeological remains of the wall built by the Carthaginians back in the third century BC and those of the crypt of the chapel of San José of the sixteenth century.
This architectonic project already received in 2004 the Regional Prize of Architecture of Murcia.
Patricio Valverde, Minister of Development, has reported the jury's decision of these awards, which have attended in this edition a total of 37 candidates from the region.
There are seven award-winning buildings distributed by the municipalities of Ulea, San Pedro del Pinatar, Murcia and Cartagena.
These awards, which began in 2004 and are organized by the Ministry of Development and the Official Association of Quantity Surveyors, Technical Architects and Building Engineers, distinguish the works that guarantee the quality, safety, habitability, suitability and durability of buildings. .
The awards will be presented on April 9 at a gala that will take place at the Víctor Villegas Auditorium in Murcia.
A sculpture will be granted to the owner of the building, to the architect and the rigger, and a diploma for the promoter of the works.
Likewise, a catalog will be published with all the winning projects that can be consulted on the web of the awards.
