This Monday, the 25th, the Local Safety Board has been held, in which the anticipated emergency devices have been announced in order to guarantee the safety and proper development of Holy Week.
The meeting, held in the Town Hall, has been by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, and has had the presence of the Secretary of the Government Delegation, Francisco Jiménez;
Director General of Citizen Security and Emergencies of the Region, José Ramón Carrasco, together with the Councilors of Public Safety, Manuel Mora, of Public Services, Juan Pedro Torralba, and Tourism, David Martínez, as well as those responsible for the Security Forces of the State, National Police, Civil Guard, Local Police, Fire and Civil Protection and the older brothers of the Easter brotherhoods, who have been invited.
On the part of the City Council, the presence of Local Police will be reinforced with 330 more services, equivalent to 19 agents, as well as Fire and Civil Protection from April 2 beginning with the custody of the Basilica until the 21st, according to statements by the Councilman Manuel Mora at the end of the meeting
"The main problems are the departures of the processions and the agglomerations on specific days such as the procession of the Apostles, the early morning of Friday with El Encuentro or Good Friday at night due to the influx of the public," declared Francisco Pagán, president of the Board of Brotherhoods of Holy Week in Cartagena.
On behalf of the State Security Forces, National Police and Civil Guard, the secretary of the Government Delegation, Francisco Jiménez, affirms that both will double the services to support the Local Police during the celebration of all the acts and have the maximum possible security.
With this, we intend to continue reducing the crime rate in Cartagena, which is below the average for Spain, since in 2018 there were 106 fewer crimes than in 2017.
The Emergency Coordination Center 112 of the Region will also strengthen the service in collaboration with all the security forces.
"In 2018 the 112 attended about 1,200 calls related to Holy Week" said the director general of Citizen Security and Emergencies of the Region, José Ramón Carrasco.
TENDER OF THE CHAIRS OF THE HOLY WEEK
Councilman Manuel Mora has also stated that the allocation of the chairs that will be available in the main streets to enjoy the processions will follow the procedure of last year 2018, after having been canceled bidding process.
Thus, it will be negotiated with an external company, which will foreseeably entail a reduction of the fee that in 2018 was 45,000 euros.
