Political decisions that cost lives.
The treatment of heart attacks to the patients of the Area of Health of Cartagena in the Hospital of Santa Lucia diminishes the mortality of these pathologies in a 5% with respect to the attention of the same arterial crises after a transfer in ambulance to the Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca, as revealed by a study of the Cardiology service of the Cartagena hospital center to which the Cantonal Party has had access and available to any reader on the official website of the Spanish Society of Cardiology.
Currently, the hospital in Cartagena only attends coronary attacks on weekdays from eight in the morning until three in the afternoon.
From that moment and every weekend, a mobile ICU brings the acute patient to Murcia and in these cases the possibilities of the fatal outcome increase, makes this investigation clear.
This work has analyzed for three years a sample of 459 patients with heart attack, of which 174 received treatment in St. Lucia in the morning, and 285 fell ill in the afternoon, night or early morning and suffered, therefore, the displacement to the Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca of Murcia, since the Hemodynamics unit of Cartagena only remains operative seven hours a day in a single morning shift.
The deaths after the on-site care in the port city reached a percentage of 4% while the Cartagena people who lost their lives during the trip to the main hospital in Murcia or once they were admitted to it increased to 9.1%.
A reduction to half of the deaths if the infarct receives a rapid intervention in Cartagena.
The Ministry of Health promised a Hemodynamics service two and a half years ago in Santa Lucia.
The strong campaign of the Platform in Defense of Public Health Salvemos el Rosell, to which the Cantonal Party belongs, forced the health authorities of the Autonomous Community to assume this claim as their own in 2016. Currently, this commitment has been in water of borage and patients with serious cardiovascular diseases in health area 2 (which brings together the municipalities of Cartagena, La Union, Fuente Alamo and Mazarrón) are at greater risk of losing their lives depending on the time of day they suffer the heart attack.
The candidate for mayor and secretary general of the PCAN, Celestino García Alfaro, believes that the mortality of Cartagena increases twice as much in patients suffering from heart attacks with treatment in Murcia compared to those treated in Cartagena is a big nonsense.
Behind that percentage there are deceased with names and surnames that could have saved his life.
"When we play with the health of people, unfulfilled political promises border on perversion," says García Alfaro
