Yesterday afternoon, a meeting between MC Cartagena, represented by the ediles María José Soler, Francisco Calderón and Isabel García, and the president, Jesús Giménez, took place at the social premises of the Neighborhood Association of the Estación Sector. representatives of collectives and associations convened by the cartagenerista training.
In particular, they attended the Association in Defense of the Native Tree (ARBA), CreeCT;
the Platform that demands the cleaning of contaminated soils of El Hondón, Zincsa and Peñarroya;
Platform of those affected by heavy metals from El Llano del Beal;
the researcher José Matías Peña and representatives of the residents of Alumbres and La Aljorra.
During the meeting, the situation of contaminated soils in the municipality was discussed.
As a result of the meeting, Jesús Giménez stated that "the neighbors lamented the lack of social awareness about the risks they have been suffering for decades, which they consider is due to the interest of the different administrations in hiding this public health problem", since "no progress has been made in the decontamination of soils or in preventive and health measures for the population".
The commitment of MC
Jesús Giménez recalled how, during these last years, MC renewed his commitment in the fight against pollution, the most important and forgotten cause in our municipality, reviewing the different advances promoted by the Cartagena training in this legislature, in which, for the first time Once, solutions have been sought in matters such as:
The constitution of the Air Quality Board.
The installation of Bisphenol meter and La Aljorra station.
The study of risks and characterization of soils of El Hondón.
The evaluation studies of El Llano del Beal school and preventive measures, making it possible to open the center after the summer of 2017.
The creation of the Chair of Environment with the UPCT and the first measures related to climate change.
The approval, at the beginning of 2019, of a plenary initiative to request the Autonomous Community to carry out and publish epidemiological studies in the affected areas.
The Cartagena president "also recalled that, from the City Hall, José López has served as a speaker to these claims and marked on the agenda as a priority the health of people and the improvement of the environment."
In contrast to this, "the Autonomous Community wants, for example, to educate in the resignation of the children of El Llano del Beal, to which, according to what the parents have told us, they do not offer solutions to pollution, but if they have been presented to 'Plumb and Jabonete', one more way to trivialize the health problems of these children who hide. "
Future actions
Among the future measures to be implemented from May, the MC leader announced "the continuity of the reforestation plans, the creation of an Environment service, continue with the municipal studies on air quality and measures that improve the health of Cartagena, the beginning of measures and social awareness campaigns, in addition to the commitment to force individuals and other administrations to decontaminate the soils and provide budget, remembering that Cartagena is supportive and supports the risk of its port and its refinery and that the health of its inhabitants does not deserve the contempt of institutions and big companies ".
