Citizens bet on the Socioeconomic Observatory to combat economic marginalization in neighborhoods and councils (20/03/2019)

- The latest data offered by the Tax Agency and the Regional Statistical Center (CREM) warn of strong imbalances in the levels of poverty and unemployment in the municipality

Cartagena, Wednesday, March 20.

After attending the Plenary Session of the Economic and Social Council of the Region of Murcia that was held today in Cartagena, the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, announced his intention to launch in 2019 the Socioeconomic Local Observatory as an organ that will guide the budgetary policies in the municipality analyzing previously "the evolution of those territories with a greater deficit in services and infrastructures, which suffer marginalization in local and regional public investments and that are suffering the phenomenon of depopulation, unemployment, and poverty in an outstanding and meaningful way ".

The latest data offered by the Tax Agency and the Regional Statistics Center (CREM) warn of alarming levels of poverty and unemployment in some neighborhoods and councils of Cartagena with respect to other towns within the municipality, "is the direct consequence of the nefarious policies budgetary PP, PSOE and MC in which the electoral interest has prevailed over the real needs of the territory, "says the spokesman of the liberal party.

The CREM indicators show that in the last quarter of 2018 only six entities, San Antón (3,878), El Plan (2,746), Santa Lucía (950), Rincón de San Ginés (854), Canteras (555) and El Algar ( 534) represent 80 percent of out-of-town unemployment and 57.3 percent of total unemployment.

On the other hand, the Tax Agency recently warned that El Albujón and La Aljorra are two of the lowest income localities in Spain with 15,998 euros and 16,265, respectively, when the municipality average is 20,548.

In addition, while the population increases in the Region of Murcia, Cartagena adds four consecutive years of demographic regression, and already low of 214,000 to settle in the 213,943 inhabitants, according to the latest data from the INE

Plenary agreement ignored by the PSOE

The study of the socioeconomic evolution of the territories of the municipality and the creation of the Observatory was a plenary agreement promoted by Cs in the ordinary session of October 2018 but the PSOE Government continues without executing it, "the study is intimately linked to the need to expand with more resources and personnel the current and constrained Municipal Employment Observatory so that it becomes a true consultative tool that guides with criteria of justice and necessity the destiny of local investments, "says Padín who recalls that the creation of this body is For years now, it has been a reality in other municipalities where it has proven to be a very agile and efficient tool for drawing up accounts.

In addition, information is obtained that serves to anticipate emerging demands and prioritize actions, "and not to work at breakneck speed, when neighbors exploit or electoral convenience as we do in Cartagena," said Manuel Padin, who believes that for promote this tool "it will be necessary to have the involvement of the UPCT for the development of tools for comparative analysis".

"What we have now is a hodgepodge of raw information that comes from neighborhood associations and neighborhood councils, and recurrent election announcements of specific crash plans in specific areas that never start like the one proposed recently by the popular candidate , Noelia Arroyo, for the Virgen de la Caridad neighborhood, "says Padin who argues that Cartagena needs" a comparative analysis, work according to their conclusions and abandon once and for all that tradition of PP and PSOE to design the accounts with improvisation and political opportunism to win votes because that has led to the failure and abandonment of many neighborhoods and councils "says Manuel Padín who has announced that this study will be one of its conditions to be able to support the budgets of 2019 and an investment philosophy that will assume Cs if it reaches the local government.

Rational and informed economic plan against depopulation

For Citizens, it is also vital to draft and execute, through the future Socioeconomic Observatory, a comprehensive plan against depopulation, poverty, and accused unemployment in Cartagena.

"and must include a map of needs in infrastructures and basic services, to identify the investment priority, shock plans with tax incentives for the installation of companies in depressed areas, regional and European help lines for housing improvements, intermediation works to resuscitate commercial activity, new inventories and empty housing stock exchanges, promoting access to banking services in rural areas, promoting local childcare services as is done with home help for the elderly, strategic improvements in public transport, among many other measures that our party is willing to apply in Cartagena ", said Manuel Padín.
