The exhibition space of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), located in the Faculty of Business Sciences, former CIM, opens on Wednesday at 7:30 pm a sample with the results of the analysis and documentation of baroque altarpieces of the Diocese of Cartagena, conducted by the research group Thermal Analysis and Geomatics (TAG) led by the professor of the School of Architecture and Building Josefina García León.
In the exhibition you can see the complete models of the altarpieces of the churches of San Miguel, in Murcia, and Santo Domingo, in Cartagena, both the architectural part and the sculptural part of the altarpieces, made through non-invasive methodologies through of digital photogrammetry and laser scanner.
"This study and its work methodology has allowed to deepen the knowledge and the improvement of the inclusive dissemination of said Baroque altarpieces, as well as to enable its correct recovery and conservation, in case it is necessary", explains García León.
"The baroque altarpieces of the Diocese of Cartagena have great heritage and at the same time lack of accurate graphic documentation," he adds.
Along with the modeling, an interactive game is also presented, which has been developed and programmed 'ex profeso' for the dissemination of this research, based on the baroque altarpiece of the Church of Santo Domingo, in Cartagena.
The objective is to explain the hierarchical and orderly placement of the sculptural part in the architectural element and obtain a disclosure of this heritage element among a wider audience.
The work of this research has been carried out with funding from the Vice-Rector for Research of the Polytechnic of Cartagena and with the collaboration of researchers from the University of Murcia and the University of Bologna.
