At the meeting, other issues were put on the table, such as the need to improve school transportation for the baccalaureate, the lack of sports pavilions or the absence of computer equipment in many centers.
Cartagena is the municipality with the highest incidence over health due to asbestos in Spain.
For months, associations of fathers and mothers, as well as federations of neighbors have been demanding the elimination of fiber cement from all schools in Cartagena and its district.
In order to better understand this problem and find possible solutions, We Cartagena has held a meeting with the Federation of Parents of public school students of Cartagena and region, after which, both the representatives of Somos Region, as well as this federation, decided to coincide in the demonstration called by the Platform Zero Asbestos, of which both parties are participants, to be held on March 28 in front of the Regional Assembly.
The meeting was attended by the president of Somos Cartagena and the mayoral candidate of Cartagena, Ana Belén Nicolás and Pedro Sabiote, as well as the president of FAPA Cartagena, Francisca Galindo, along with her vice president, José Manuel Torralba, and others members of the Federation, also served to address other issues such as the need for school transportation to high school;
the lack of a police presence at the door of schools;
the non-compliance of educational centers with regard to security due to the fact that they have become obsolete;
the lack of adequate pavilions and rooms for the practice of sport and the performance of multiple uses in various centers, as well as the delay suffered in new constructions;
the urgent need for open classrooms in the region, especially in secondary school;
the deficient state, even the absence, of computer material in the schools and institutes or the lack of the figure of the school nurse.
