The City of Cartagena has obtained 1.5% Cultural for the recovery of phase 2 of the Roman Amphitheater, which would allow the intervention of the southern quadrant, included between the current work and the Autopsy Pavilion, as well as the consolidation of the double wall of the ring of the Bullring.
To this subsidy, which amounts to 400,000 euros, we must add what is referred to in the protocol recently agreed between the City Council and the Ministry of Public Works, which will involve one million euros more for the works of phases 3 and 4.
"This is great news for Cartagena because it will allow us to excavate 50% of this archaeological site.
Our heritage is one of the hallmarks of the municipality, "said the Councilor for Culture and Heritage, David Martínez Noguera.
The recent findings on the southern minor axis of the Amphitheater, which have shown three perfectly preserved service rooms, called jails, in which gladiators and animals waited to go out to fight in the sand, once again show the great value of this site , which, added to the Roman Forum and Theater "gives Cartagena the great honor of being one of the most emblematic heritage gems of the entire Mediterranean," said Noguera.
