During today and tomorrow, from 10 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 7:30 pm, you can visit the 1st Health and Sports Fair organized by the Campus of the Catholic University of San Antonio de Cartagena in the Plaza of Héroes de Cavite and that has been inaugurated by the president of the UCAM, José Luís Mendoza, and the Regional Minister of Health of the Autonomous Community, Manuel Villegas, who have participated in various tests such as "the study of the footprint" by students of Podiatry, the "measurement of blood pressure" or the power of jumping and even have played table tennis in the playground enabled by the Degree in Physical Activity Science for visitors.
At the opening of this exhibition, composed of about thirty stand - of companies in the sector as well as titles and services of the university-, also participated the 5 times Olympic medalist and Spanish athlete most decorated within the Olympism, the canoeist David Cal, with whom visitors can speak at the stand of the Sports Activities service of the UCAM during the two days of the fair.
Mendoza recalled that "health, sports and food are the pillars of this university, with a prestigious international prominence in the field of research, quality training, internationalization, technological innovation, ... but above all, it calls the attention to be known in Europe as the University of Sports for the successes we are getting.In fact, right now we are granting scholarships to 460 Olympic athletes, paying them the studies and helping them economically to each athlete, and others more than 200 we pay for the studies in other international universities. "
At the beginning of this fair, which aims to contribute to education for health among Cartagena and therefore promote sports and healthy eating, have also been the deans of the professional associations of Physical Activity Science and of Sports and Physiotherapy.
In this sense the counselor has stressed that "practically any pathology improves with the performance of physical exercise and that is what we are promoting here today."
In this initiative, sponsored by the General Directorate of Sports of the Regional Government, visitors can meet, in direct contact with teachers and students of university degrees in Nursing, Physiotherapy, Sports Science, Psychology, Podiatry, Medicine, Dentistry, Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Technology and Gastronomy, these studies and professional practice, as well as the training cycles of Oral Hygiene, Nutrition, Sports Animation and Physical Conditioning that are offered at the facilities of the UCAM.
Extensive program of activities
In the 30 stand of the fair biomechanical studies of the foot are being carried out, prevention in the field of geriatric podiatry, demonstrations of functional bandages, tests of physical valuation and anthropometry, cardiovascular risk controls, spirometry and elastography.
In addition, it is taught to have a proper oral hygiene, as well as the care of dental prostheses and cardiopulmonary resuscitation workshops, identification of allergens, natural toxins and healthy dishes.
During the two days there will be traditional games and sports activities, such as an ecological race and a gymkhana with basketball and Brutus Challenge held today, in the afternoon, there will be a modern children's dance exhibition and another one of the UCAM Cartagena Women's Table Tennis.
Tomorrow, Tuesday
Tomorrow, Tuesday, at 11 o'clock, Viva Gym will take a V-Yoga and a Body Combat class to the fair, as well as the Athletics Club UCAM Cartagena will organize athletics games.
In the afternoon there will be a postural hygiene workshop and back school run by AIRAM Physiotherapy Cabinets, as well as a Cross Training organized by the Santa Ana Sports Club.
Among the exhibitors and sponsors in this fair are Harimsa, Practiser, Hery Schein, MedicalScan, Podiatech and Salud21, although there will also be a stand at Virgen de la Caridad Medical Center, Marnys, the ARQUA restaurant and the Cartagena Health Area.
